Meet Your Hosts

A genuine local connection makes every trip better.

Rie and her son in yukata

Hi, I’m Rie!

I started Rie’s Tokyo Culture Exchange because I believe the best travel memories come from connecting with locals. When I traveled abroad, the times I sat down and shared a conversation with a local family were always the highlight of my trip.

Now, I’d love to offer that warm, welcoming experience here in Japan. Through calligraphy and origami, we don’t just teach art—we share stories, laughs, and cultural insights in a relaxed, private setting.

Hosting with a Local Kid

Our unique value is the true “family-hosted” feel. Whenever school schedules allow, my 11-year-old son sometimes joins our sessions. For visiting families, this can be a wonderful chance for kids to interact, fold origami together, and communicate beyond language barriers.

Even if you’re traveling as a couple or solo, having a local child around can bring a lively, heartwarming dynamic that you won’t find in a formal classroom setting.

Inclusive for Everyone

Whether you are honeymooners seeking a quiet private experience, a family with energetic kids, or friends looking for a unique activity, our space is yours. Because every workshop is 100% private, we can adapt the pace and atmosphere entirely to you.

“We open our doors to the world, and we can’t wait to welcome you.”
